[A NOTE TO OUR FAITHFUL READERS:
It is the evening of December 23, and we are
now anchored at Chalong Bay on the Island of Phuket, Thailand. Tomorrow night
Mr. Shrode will depart to fly home to visit his ailing mother to whom we send
our best wishes. The Captain will remain with Maverick over the Christmas
holidays and will look forward to Mr. Shrode's return the first week in
January, whereupon, after preparations have been made, we will sail for Sri
Lanka.
There follow several missives which we hope will get you up to date on our
voyages since Bali. They are slated with times, dates, and coordinates
appropriate to the times and places they would have been written and
transmitted had it been possible, and these particulars will be used to place
them on the map of our voyage. This may be a bit confusing, but I think less
so than the alternatives.
Thanks to all who have sent us messages of support and holiday greeting both
to home and to the boat. Regards and Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, a
Joyous Ramadan, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, whatever. Let's not get
carried away.]
